Job summary

Hutchinson Regional Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Perianesthesia unit on a PRN basis. The role delivers professional nursing care under physician direction, while mentoring staff and ensuring accurate documentation and patient education.

The position requires an ADN with active Kansas RN licensure, BLS/CPR within 30 days of hire, and ACLS/PALS/NRP may be required by department policy. A supportive team and comprehensive benefits are offered.

  • Current Kansas RN license in good standing; compact state accepted.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care under physician direction.
  • Mentor/training for new staff and students.
  • Maintain accurate documentation per policy.
  • Educate patients and families on care, medications and self-care.
  • Evaluate patient needs and update care plans within scope.
  • Ensure patient safety and confidentiality per PHI regulations.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Provides care to patients under the direction of a physician.
  • Mentors, develops and trains new staff and students.
  • Perform acts that are within the scope of practice as defined by the applicable licensing board.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients as described in unit/department-based competencies, policies, and procedures.
  • Accurately evaluate patient needs and review/maintain a comprehensive care plan within scope
  • Promotes patient’s independence by establishing patient care goals and including the patient and family in discussions regarding medical issues, testing, medications, and self-care skills.
  • Provide for accurate administration and evaluation of medication, management of medication orders, and delivery of medication to patients in a timely manner.
  • Educate the patient/family on physical, emotional and psychosocial aspects of care, disease process, symptom and pain management, and signs and symptoms of death (when appropriate).
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation as per Health System/affiliate policy.
  • Observes the patients’ physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual conditions and reports any changes as directed.
  • Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
  • Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Required Education and Experience Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Required License/Certifications/Registrations Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Kansas or compact state.
  • Current BLS/CPR card from approved provider within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first.
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIHSS, AWHONN may be required per department/entity policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred Education and Experience Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Previous experience in a similar environment
  • Preferred License/Certifications/Registrations none
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to apply the basic principles of nursing.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Keyboarding skills and basic computer skills.
  • Multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
Physical Requirements

With or without accommodation. Heavy Work: Occasionally exerting up to 100 lbs - constantly exerting up to 20 lbs. 51-75% of the day may be standing or walking.
