Job summary

Responsibilities

• Assess patient for physical, emotional, psych/social, and family support.
• Organize and coordinate all aspects of patient care according to the patient’s real and/or perceived needs.
• Evaluate patient progress by correlating patient information with nursing knowledge to determine if goals are being met according to the patient’s plan of care or clinical path.
• Consult and collaborate with members of the health care team in planning and implementing total patient care for individuals.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Demonstrate proficiency in nursing skills to carry out the patient’s plan of care.
• Communicate interactions, both verbal and written, that clearly and positively accomplish desired patient care as a collaborative effort.
• Educate patients and families; provide teaching, support, and coordination of health care plans during the acute phase of illness as needed.
• Promote clinical knowledge development including critical thinking skills and improve strategies for clinical judgment through research and continuing education.
• Access the medication room and supply room for stocking purposes as required by the job code.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Certifications and Licensures

• ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support – Equivalent Experience: Within 12 months of hire or transfer.
• DIMC: Dysrhythmia Interpretation Man – Equivalent Experience: Within 12 months of hire or transfer.
• BLS: Basic Life Support – Equivalent Experience: Within 3 months of hire or transfer (AHA).
• RN: Registered Nurse – Equivalent Experience: Within 12 months of hire or transfer (MI).
• TEAM ADVANCED: Techniques for Effective Aggression Management – Equivalent Experience: Within 6 months of hire or transfer (Employees on or before 12/31/2023 will have 24 months to complete).

Required Education

Associate degree in Nursing (Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred).

Other Information

• Completion of orientation process as directed by the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nurse manager and critical care educator.
• Interpersonal skills to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels.
• PCCN certification preferred.
• Competency in Microsoft Windows expected; further learning opportunities may be required.
