Summary

This position performs a variety of integrated functions, intuitively, using the nursing process while applying a broad nursing knowledge in a caring, concerned manner.

Responsibilities

1. (25%) Assesses patient for physical, emotional, psych/social and family support.
2. (25%) Organizes and coordinates all aspects of patient care according to the patient’s real and/or perceived needs.
3. (25%) Evaluates patient progress by correlating patient information with nursing knowledge to determine if goals are being met according to the patient’s plan of care or clinical path.
4. (25%) Consults and collaborates with members of the health care team in planning and implementing total patient care for individuals.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Demonstrates proficiency in nursing skills to carry out the patient’s plan of care.
• Communicates interactions, both verbal and written, that clearly and positively accomplish desired patient care as a collaborative effort.
• Educates patients and families.
• Provides teaching, support and coordination of health care plans for patient and family through the acute phase of illness, as needed.
• Promotes clinical knowledge development including critical thinking skills and improves strategies for comparing clinical judgment through research and continuing education.
• Has access to the medication room and supply room for stocking purposes as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Certifications and Licensures

• RN: Registered Nurse (Essential)
• ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Within 12 months of hire or transfer) (Essential)
• BLS: Basic Life Support (Within 3 months of hire or transfer) (Essential)
• DIMC: Dysrhythmia Interpretation Man (Within 12 months of hire or transfer) (Essential)
• TEAM ADVANCED: Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (Within 6 months of hire or transfer; 24 months for employees on or before 8/1/2024) (Essential)

Required Education

• Associate’s degree in Nursing required, Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred. (Essential)

Experience, Training and Skills

• Completion of orientation process as directed by the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nurse manager and critical care educator.
• Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to convey ideas clearly.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Windows.
• PCCN certification preferred.

Physical / Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions

• Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, trauma, grief and death.
• Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or an appropriate substitute.
• Can move freely about the facility with or without an assisted device and perform all job functions outlined.
• Vision and hearing necessary.
• Can sit/stand/walk for long periods; may require postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
• Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious material; must comply with bloodborne pathogen and TB testing.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular attendance and remain awake.
• Requires overall dexterity for handling, reaching, grasping. Repetition common.
