Job summary

Associated Health Professionals, Inc. (AHP) is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) with PACU expertise to join the VA Northern California Health Care System in Martinez, CA on a full-time basis.

The ideal candidate will bring PACU and Pre-Op experience, strong teamwork, and a patient‑centered approach to Phase I post‑anesthesia recovery. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–6:30 PM, with pay at $75/hr and comprehensive benefits from VA and AHP.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship required for VA federal employment.
• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Minimum of two years of PACU experience.
• Pre-Op experience preferred, but not required.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
• Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and move equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities

• Provide immediate post-anesthesia recovery care.
• Care for higher-acuity postoperative patients.
• Closely monitor patients during emergence from anesthesia.
• Recognize and respond quickly to changes in patient condition.
• Manage pain, nausea, and other post-anesthesia symptoms.
• Administer medications, IV fluids, and treatments as ordered.
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and perioperative team.
• Ensure patients meet discharge criteria for Phase I recovery.
• Maintain compliance with VA policies, safety standards, and infection control procedures.
• Document patient care accurately in the EHR.

Associated Health Professionals, Inc. (AHP), a Joint Commission Certified supplemental healthcare staffing agency, is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) with PACU experience for a full-time opportunity to support the VA Northern California Health Care System.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced nurses seeking a full-time (Monday–Friday schedule) position at a VA healthcare facility. The ideal candidate will have experience in both PACU and Pre-Op; however, candidates with strong PACU-only experience are encouraged to apply.

• Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – PACU – Phase 1
• Location: VA Northern California Health Care System – Martinez, CA
• Employment Type: Full-Time
• Schedule: Monday–Friday
• Tentative Shift: 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM

Position Overview

The PACU RN will provide nursing care to patients during Phase I post-anesthesia recovery, with a focus on safe recovery immediately following anesthesia.

PACU Responsibilities

• Provide immediate post-anesthesia recovery care
• Care for higher-acuity postoperative patients
• Closely monitor patients during emergence from anesthesia
• Recognize and respond quickly to changes in patient condition
• Manage pain, nausea, and other post-anesthesia symptoms
• Administer medications, IV fluids, and treatments as ordered.
• Collaborate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other members of the perioperative team
• Ensure patients meet appropriate criteria for discharge or transfer from Phase I recovery
• Maintain compliance with VA policies, safety standards, and infection control procedures
• Document patient care accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate approach to caring for Veteran patients
