Job description

We are searching for a Registered Nurse (RN) to work in our PACU — someone who works well in a fast-paced hospital setting and provides nursing care to patients by assessing, planning, educating, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate care. This approach incorporates family-centered principles and cost-effective care. The applicant will provide post-operative care to pediatric patients, closely monitoring temperature, heart rate, blood oxygen levels, level of consciousness, blood pressure, and pain levels.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, associate’s degree, or technical diploma in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program, and signed agreement, or an associate’s degree in a related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for RN licensure. Alternatively, current enrollment in a nursing bridge program working toward an MSN with verified BSN-equivalency or a signed agreement.
  • 1 year experience in nursing (minimum)
  • RN License by Texas Board of Nursing or Nurse License Compact
  • CPR – Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications
  • Pediatric experience
  • Knowledgeable of physiologic and social sciences related to breastfeeding and lactation
  • Ability to organize and manage job tasks effectively
  • Provides lactation instruction and support
Responsibilities:
  • Performs and documents assessments of patients and families, including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental (age-appropriate), cultural, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized manner.
  • Analyzes situations, anticipates potential problems, detects changes in patient status, and updates care plans accordingly. Communicates and documents this information with the healthcare team.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and patient care conferences, documenting discussions in the medical record.
  • Assists patients and families in implementing their roles in the care plan as appropriate.
  • Assesses patient and family learning needs, capabilities, preferences, and readiness before teaching.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills with patients, families, visitors, peers, and healthcare team members.
  • Administers and documents medications and treatments promptly.
  • Willing to acquire new knowledge and skills to improve performance at individual, team, and organizational levels.
  • Participates in unit performance improvement initiatives.
