Job summary

Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, NC is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for Outpatient Surgery on a PRN daytime schedule. The 15-Surgical Suite unit offers 12-hour shifts, self-scheduling and every-other-weekend rotation to promote flexibility.

The role emphasizes plan-of-care, documentation, patient education, care coordination, and collaboration across disciplines, with on-call as needed.

Qualifications

• Active North Carolina RN license required.
• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS and PALS within six months of hire.
• One year of Outpatient Surgery RN experience required.

Responsibilities

• Performs plan-of-care interventions including medication administration and clinical treatments.
• Documents patient care in a timely and accurate manner.
• Monitors and communicates patient condition to care team, physicians, patients, and families.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and coordinates care across disciplines.
• Delivers age/culture-appropriate patient/family education and supports learning needs.

The Same Day Surgery Center at Frye Regional Medical Center offers a supportive and stable work environment, caring for a variety of patients across the life span. This 15- Surgical Suite unit features self-scheduling, 12-hour shifts, and every-other-weekend rotation, helping promote flexibility and work-life balance. Nurses in this unit benefit from a collaborative team culture, and the opportunity to gain diverse clinical experience.

How you'll contribute

A Registered Nurse (RN)who excels in this role:

• Performs plan-of-care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care activities.
• Documents patient care provided in a timely and accurate manner.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, physicians, patients, and families.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living (hygiene, elimination, nutrition, ambulation).
• Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate care (transfers, discharges, referrals, psychosocial/spiritual support).
• Assesses learning needs and delivers age/culture-appropriate patient/family education.
• Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
• Participates in performance improvement and required continuing education.
• Provides quality patient care and works other shifts/units as needed; may take on-call assignments.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current state RN license. Bachelor's degree preferred but not required. Additional requirements include:

• Active North Carolina RN license (single-state) or compact required. If relocating, licensure must be updated to the new Primary State of Residence (PSOR) before employment starts.
• Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS and PALS are required within six months of hire.
• One year of Outpatient Surgery RN experience required.
