Location: Lancaster, PA
Hours: 36 hours per week, night shift, weekend and holiday requirement
A 26-bed oncology unit caring for adult patients with many types of cancer. Patients include those who are newly diagnosed and require surgery or who are receiving chemotherapy and/or radiation. The unit works alongside the treatment team at ABBCI as continuum of care for the patients. The unit also cares for a majority of our community that has the diagnosis of Sickle Cell.
Summary:
- Assume responsibility and accountability as defined by the American Nurses Association standards of nursing practice. The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice Apprentice is a newly licensed RN or RN with less than 15 months of experience demonstrating basic safe practice within the organizational professional practice model. Seeks guidance to integrate concepts, knowledge, skills, and attitudes to meet standards for competent professional nursing practice. Exhibits Penn Medicine’s experience standards reflecting its mission and embedded in the professional practice competency domains.
- The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice Apprentice provides direct care to patients ranging from infancy to the elderly, demonstrating competencies in quality improvement, evidence-based practice, leadership, person and family-centered care, professionalism, safety, teamwork, and informatics.
- Works closely with the interprofessional health care team to coordinate care across the continuum. Focuses on developing knowledge and skills to provide individualized care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age considerations.
- Requires consultation with experienced clinicians and benefits from feedback, demonstrating growth in caring for increasingly complex patients. Demonstrates how nursing practice impacts the organizational vision, mission, and goals, complying with all regulations and standards.
- Must complete all Clinical Nurse 1 competencies and aim to advance to Clinical Nurse 2 within 18 months.
- Qualified individuals must have the ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform duties including:
- Incorporate Lancaster General Health’s mission, vision, and values into patient care planning.
- Function as an independent and team member as defined in the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
- Perform patient assessments, evaluate progress, and adapt care plans accordingly.
- Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses or issues and formulate age-appropriate, culturally sensitive care plans.
- Implement care knowledgeably and coordinate across disciplines.
- Provide leadership, communicate standards of care, and support team members.
- Demonstrate understanding and commitment to our values of privacy, quality, respect, service, and teamwork.
- Delegate and supervise staff as appropriate and ensure care continuity and achievement of outcomes.
- Educate patients on healthy practices and treatments.
- Enhance nursing practices using technology and considering safety, effectiveness, and cost.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- RN Licensure issued by the PA Board of Nursing or a Temporary Practice Permit until RN license is obtained.
- Individuals with Temporary Practice Permits must sit for NCLEX within 60 days of starting.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; for Magnet positions, BSN or higher is required within three years of placement if started after 07/01/2020.
- Graduate RNs may practice under supervision with a current temporary permit.
- All Clinical Nurse 1 RNs must complete the Nurse Residency Program.
- CPR Certification - American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire.
- Must be in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs.
