RWJBarnabas Health in New Jersey is hiring a Per Diem Day Shift Registered Nurse (PD RN) for the Medical Surgical Unit VI at RWJ University Hospital New Brunswick. You will deliver patient care, monitor conditions, and collaborate with physicians.

Ideal candidates hold an active NJ RN license, BLS, a BSN preferred or completed within 5 years, ACLS/CBLS preferred, and 1–2 years acute care experience; EPIC EMR experience is preferred; compensation reflects education and experience.

Qualifications

• Active New Jersey RN license in good standing.
• BLS certification from American Heart Association.
• BSN preferred or completed within 5 years of hire.
• ACLS certification preferred or to be obtained within 6 months.
• 1–2 years RN acute care experience preferred.
• Experience with EMR systems (EPIC) preferred.

As a Registered Nurse within the Medical Surgical Unit VI (6 North) at RWJ University Hospital New Brunswick, you will help advance patient care and strengthen the experience of individuals and families across our organization. Our 30-bed private Medical-Surgical and Telemetry Unit VI provides comprehensive care for adult patients with a variety of acute and chronic medical conditions. The unit serves patients who are hemodynamically stable but may be at risk for clinical deterioration and require continuous cardiac monitoring in addition to standard medical-surgical care. Patient populations may include individuals with complex, multi-system medical conditions, post-surgical care needs, and patients transitioning from higher-acuity settings to a lower level of care.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

• Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and recognize subtle clinical changes, using your judgment to intervene early and advocate for your patients
• Providing safe, evidence-based medications, treatments, and hands on care grounded in strong clinical judgment
• Serving as a clinical partner to physicians and advanced providers, offering insight that supports timely, well-coordinated care decisions
• Providing clear, compassionate education to patients and families so they feel informed, supported, and prepared for the next phase of care
• Ensuring accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record to promote continuity and patient safety
• Contributing your voice during interdisciplinary rounds, helping drive seamless communication and smooth transitions of care
• Taking an active role in a highly collaborative team environment where shared accountability and teamwork directly impact outcomes

To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing and a current American Heart Association BLS Certification. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is strongly preferred or must be completed within 5 years upon hire. National Board Certification and ACLS Certification is preferred or must be obtained within 6 months of employment. Prior 1-2 years of RN experience within acute care is preferred and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. This position offers a Per Diem Day Shift schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a two weekends a month and 1 holiday shift required allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining balance.
