Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Medical Surgical GI-Stroke Unit, 2 West, a 25-bed unit with PRISM distinction.

Full Time (36 hr/week) with Day and Night Shifts. Up to $20,000 sign-on bonus; starting pay for new grads with under 1 year of experience is $36.00/hour. New grads are welcome, with an 11-week Transition to Practice and a 6-month residency to support your transition.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required).
• Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred).
• Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care using the nursing process to meet patient needs.
• Care for diverse patient population on a 25-bed unit including stroke and GI surgery.
• Coordinate teaching, health promotion, and discharge planning with the care team.

Education

Overview:

The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

Department Overview:

This unit's patient population is comprised of Stroke, Kidney Failure, Diabetes, Diagnostic Testing, GI Surgical, Respiratory and also includes patients requiring chest tubes and trachs. The nurses on this 25 bed medicine unit are committed to providing world class care and have an active voice in decision that impact workflow. The unit educator offers individualized orientation and oversees ongoing educational development to help advance your career.

This unit welcomes new graduate nurses and experienced nurses moving into this specialty. The 11-week Transition to Practice program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in IMC areas. For new graduates, this TTP program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program to support your transition to practice.
