Job summary

Sentara Leigh Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Medical Surgical GI-Stroke Unit, 2 West. This 25-bed unit requires a compassionate RN to provide patient care on a part-time basis (24 hours per week) during the day shift.

New graduates are welcomed to apply, with a structured Transition to Practice program available. Qualifications include a degree or diploma in nursing, RN licensure, and BLS within 90 days of hire.

• BSN or MSN (Preferred)
• Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.

Responsibilities

• Provide competent nursing care using the nursing process.
• Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.

Hours/Shift: Part Time (24 hr/week), Day Shift

Overview

The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

Department Overview

This unit's patient population is comprised of Stroke, Kidney Failure, Diabetes, Diagnostic Testing, GI Surgical, Respiratory and also includes patients requiring chest tubes and trachs. The nurses on this 25 bed medicine unit are committed to providing world class care and have an active voice in decision that impact workflow. The unit educator offers individualized orientation and oversees ongoing educational development to help advance your career.

The 11-week Transition to Practice program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in IMC areas.
