Job summary

Inova Fairfax Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) Lactation Consultant to join the Postpartum Unit. This full-time role is 36 hours per week with relocation assistance.

You will provide compassionate, evidence-based care, collaborate with families and the care team, and support breastfeeding, postpartum education, and safe transitions for patients and newborns. Minimum qualifications include BSN, RN with critical care experience, BLS certification, and IBCLC preferred.

Qualifications

• BSN from an accredited nursing school.
• RN license in Virginia or eligible for licensure.
• Minimum 1 year RN experience, preferably in Critical Care.
• BLS for Healthcare Provider required at start; ACLS/PALS as applicable within stated timelines.

Responsibilities

• Provides skilled, compassionate care and coordinates patient care.
• Collaborates with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
• Delivers patient/family-centered care in a holistic manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associate's Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
• Experience : Required 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse, for Critical Care units, 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care setting or completion of a critical care fellowship.
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start | For Critical Care Units: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - Within 6 Months | For Pediatric Units: Pediatric Advanced Life Support- Within 6 Months | For Infusion Center Units: Obtain chemo card- within 3 months of hire
• Licensure: Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license

Registered Nurse (RN) Lactation Consultant Preferred Qualifications:

• Candidates who currently holds an IBCLC certification.
