RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in New Jersey. The RN will monitor mother and baby, provide coaching during labor, administer medications, and support physicians throughout the delivery process.

This role emphasizes patient safety, teamwork, and evidence-based practice in a fast-paced obstetric setting. Candidates must hold an active New Jersey RN license, BLS, and prefer ACLS/NRP; two years L&D experience and EPIC EMR familiarity are

Qualifications

• Active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing strongly preferred.
• ACLS, NRP, and Intermediate EFM certifications are preferred.
• Two years of recent Labor & Delivery experience recommended.
• Comfort with EPIC EMR system.

Responsibilities

• Prepare women and families for stages of birth.
• Monitor fetal heart rate and maternal vitals; assist with meds and epidurals.
• Administer intrapartum medications safely.
• Perform bedside urine testing and infection control.
• Assist during delivery and in assiting roles for operative delivery.
• Apply thermoregulation principles for newborn care.

As a Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

• Preparingwomen, and their families, for the stages of giving birth and helping patients with breastfeeding after the baby is born
• Monitoring the baby's heart rate and mother's blood pressure, timing of contractions, helping to administer medications and epidurals, identifying and assisting with complications, aiding in inducing labor and preparing new mothers for before, during and after pregnancy
• Administeringintrapartum medications in a safe and effective manner, including tocolytics, oxytocin, magnesium sulfate, and insulin
• Performingbedside urine testing
• Utilizingaseptic techniques and infection control principles in all aspects of care
• Handlinginstruments in a safe and effective manner
• Performingtriage assessment
• Providingintrapartum care as outlined in orientation competencies
• Recognizes abnormal signs in mother and/or fetus and institutes appropriate nursing actions
• Demonstratingunderstanding of role during the delivery process
• Providingcare for the patient experiencing an operative delivery, including serving in the circulatory and scrub roles
• Applyingprinciples of thermoregulation in the care of the newborn
• Assuringproper identification of medications transferred from non-sterile to sterile field and more

To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. A bachelor’s degree in nursing is strongly preferred, as is an ACLS Certification, NRP Certification, Intermediate EFM, two years recent or current L&D experience, and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. This position offers a night shift schedule and 36 working hours weekly, allowing you to build strong patient relationships while maintaining balance.
