Job summary

Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, CA is seeking a Per Diem Registered Nurse with Labor & Delivery experience. You will provide comprehensive nursing care, assess and plan patient care, and educate patients and families to promote optimal health outcomes.

Qualifications

  • CA RN license required.
  • 1 year labor and delivery experience required.
  • Current BLS certification (maintain current at all times).
  • ACLS certification within six months of start date.
  • NRP certification within six months of start date.
  • Initial/Advanced AWHONN fetal monitoring certifications within six months.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Staffing the current and following shifts while maintaining safe ratios and acuities.
  • Enter staffing information into OptiLink and staffing sheets.
  • Round on unit, check equipment, and maintain log sheets.
  • Utilize unit resources cost-effectively.
  • Respond to workload changes during crises or emergencies.
  • Coordinate scheduling procedures with physicians for the Perinatal Unit.
  • Oversee Labor & Delivery, antepartum, and postpartum units with oversight to staff.
  • Serve as a resource to staff and physicians as needed; address care issues.
  • Help ensure regulatory compliance.

The Clinical Nurse assumes principal responsibility for the total nursing care, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation of each assigned patient and completing all documentation as required. The clinical nurse initiates teaching and educates the patient and family/or significant other to attain optimal health. RN has access to all Patient Health Information for treatment purposes only.

Responsibilities
  • a) Staffing the current and following shift assuring that staffing ratios and acuities are being adhered to;
  • b) Entering staffing information for current shift into both Opt link and on the staffing assignment sheets;
  • c) Rounding on unit and equipment (including One East) that requires daily checks and ensures log sheets are complete;
  • d) Managing unit resources in a cost-effective manner;
  • e) Demonstrate an ability to respond and provide direction in changing workload during crisis and emergency situations;
  • f) Interfaces with physicians and their offices regarding scheduling procedures for the Perinatal Unit;
  • g) Carefully oversees and evaluates the dynamically changing scene of the Labor and Delivery unit as well as provides oversight of the antepartum and postpartum units;
  • h) Serves as a resource to staff and addresses issues of patient care with staff and with physicians when appropriate; and
  • i) Helps to ensure regulatory compliance.
Qualifications

Required:

**1 year current labor and delivery experience required**

  • Current CA Registered Nurse License
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification (maintain current at all times)
  • American Heart Association ACLS certification within six months of start date
  • NRP certification within six months of start date
  • EKG certification within 30 days of start date (excluding those nurses who exclusively care for post-partum patients and newborns)
  • Initial Intermediate AWHONN Fetal Monitoring (excluding those nurses who exclusively care for post-partum patients and newborns) within six months of start date
  • Advanced AWHONN Fetal Monitoring (excluding those nurses who exclusively care for post-partum patients and newborns) within six months of start date
  • Effective verbal and written skills to communicate with people on all levels and able to maintain positive working relationships with parents, families, and co-workers
  • Possess active listening skills
  • Compassionate and nonjudgmental caregiver and advocate
  • Able to independently manage multiple priorities
  • Must comply with Annual Health Review
