Desert Care Network in Southern California is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse for a per diem role across our Palm Springs area facilities. You will provide compassionate patient care across diverse units, with a focus on safety, collaboration, and clinical excellence.

In this rotating shift position, the RN will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care, administer medications, monitor vitals, and educate patients and families.

Qualifications

• Current California Registered Nurse license.
• ADN or BSN from an accredited program.

General Duties

The Clinical Nurse assumes principal responsibility for the total nursing care, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of each assigned patient. The staff nurse initiates teaching and educates the patient and family or significant other to attain optimal health. Access to all Patient Health Information for treatment purposes only.

Responsibilities

• Obtains information and interprets it in terms of the patient’s needs.

• Understands the range of treatment needed as appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
• Independently cares for two critically ill patients.
• Assesses and recognizes changes in condition, notifies the physician appropriately, and reports accurately and concisely; documents completely including reassessments.
• Provides head‑to‑toe critical assessment and reports utilizing critical thinking skills; includes changes in condition, treatments rendered, and vasoactive medication dosages.
• Manages multiple drips and sedation.
• Assesses and cares for patients on ventilators and understands alarms and patient parameters.
• Understands hemodynamic status, correlates Swan‑Ganz readings, blood pressure, and urine output to assess appropriately.
• Assists with bedside procedures such as arterial line placement.
• Initiates interdisciplinary communications and incorporates recommendations.
• Demonstrates consistent knowledge and skills for appropriate care across patient age groups on the assigned unit.
• Acts as a liaison between patient, physicians, family or significant other, and other health disciplines.
• Develops, implements, and updates individualized teaching and discharge plans.
• Initiates and documents progressive patient and family teaching.
• Facilitates the discharge process, ensuring all goals are addressed prior to discharge.
• Utilizes current theories and knowledge for accurate assessments and evaluations.
• Completes acuity evaluation on all assigned patients per unit protocol.
• Adapts to altered work patterns, sets priorities, and reallocates assignments to meet patient needs using available resources.
• Administers medications prescribed by physicians, including IVs, blood, and blood products; knows actions, indications, contraindications, precautions, adverse reactions, dosage, and route of administration.
• Verifies medication orders against MAR for ongoing accuracy.
• Recognizes, evaluates, and intervenes appropriately in life‑threatening situations.
• Checks new patient orders throughout the shift and implements them in a timely manner.
• Completes an end‑of‑shift review of physician orders.
• Notifies the physician in a timely manner regarding variances in diagnostic tests, vital signs, and assessments.
• Functions as a charge nurse as assigned.
• Supports changes in clinical practice as evidenced by the plan of care and subsequent documentation.
• Serves as a resource to co‑workers, precepting and performing other duties as assigned.
• Ensures compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and best practice guidelines.
• Maintains competence through in‑services and ongoing continuing education yearly.
• Participates in the Quality Improvement Program.
• Resolves problems following the chain of command with a positive attitude and suggestions.
• Demonstrates accountability for supervision and communication when assigned with students or float personnel.
• Documents incidents and quality care issues that may affect patient or staff well‑being, and takes appropriate action by the end of shift.
• Assesses patients for risk of injury and implements safety measures to reduce risk.
• Uses restraints according to policy and explores less restrictive alternatives; accurately documents in the medical record.
• Advocates for patient/family by providing information and assisting in decision‑making resources such as advanced directives and ethics consults.
• Disposes hazardous waste safely and appropriately.
• Handles oxygen safely.
• Maintains hand hygiene and protective wear.
• Confirms proper identification prior to care delivery.
• Requests clarification of physician orders as necessary.

Qualifications

• Current California Registered Nurse License.
• Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited school (ADN) or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school (BSN).
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification (maintain continuously).
• Current American Heart Association ACLS certification (maintain continuously).
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, able to foster positive relationships with families and co‑workers.

• Compliance with Respiratory Fit Testing Protection Policy.
