Job summary

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is seeking an Interventional Radiology Nurse Specialist to provide skilled, patient-centered care throughout the procedural journey. The role emphasizes comprehensive pre-procedural assessment, patient preparation for minimally invasive interventions, and continuous monitoring under physician guidance.

The ideal candidate will hold an RN license in DC, have 1–2 years of IR/cath lab/ICU/ED experience, and be proficient in cardiac monitoring, arrhythmia

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
  • 1-2 years of IR/Cath Lab/ICU/ED experience preferred.
  • DC State Licensure as RN required; compact license acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-procedural assessments.
  • Prepare patients for a range of minimally invasive procedures.
  • Monitor patients continuously during procedures.
  • Administer moderate sedation under physician guidance per policy.
  • Identify and respond to changes in patient condition with sound clinical judgment.
  • Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia, and interdisciplinary team to ensure safe care.
  • Coordinate with Procedural PACU team for recovery post-procedure.

Position Responsibilities

As an Interventional Radiology Nurse Specialist, you will provide skilled, patient-centered care throughout the procedural experience.

  • Performing comprehensive pre-procedural assessments
  • Preparing patients for a wide range of minimally invasive interventions
  • Providing continuous patient monitoring during procedures
  • Administering moderate sedation under physician guidance in accordance with hospital policies
  • Recognizing and responding to changes in patient condition using sound clinical judgment
  • Collaborating closely with physicians, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality care
  • Recovery care is provided by a dedicated Procedural PACU team, allowing nurses to focus on delivering exceptional procedural care.

Four 10-hour shifts per week + Call

Minimal Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited School of Nursing. required
Experience
  • 1-2 years experience required. IR, Cath Lab, ICU, ED preferable
Licenses and Certifications
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the District of Columbia required
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required
  • Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
  • Health Services\ACLS within 180 Days required
  • Health Services\PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support preferred
Knowledge Skills And Abilities
  • Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and arrhythmia recognition invasive pressure monitoring conscious sedation emergency care and comprehensive assessment skills preferred.
