Job summary

Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk, VA is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for the Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU). The IMCU provides care for higher acuity patients with close observation and collaboration across the care team.

The RN will follow the nursing process, monitor complex conditions, and support transitions between critical care and general medical-surgical units. BSN/MSN preferred; RN license required; BLS within 90 days of hire.

Qualifications

• RN license is required.
• BSN/MSN preferred for IMCU role.
• BLS certification required within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide competent nursing care using the nursing process.
• Monitor and respond to patient conditions in IMCU with close observation.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to coordinate care and transitions.
• Support transition-to-practice programs and residency initiatives as available.

As an IMCU RN, you’ll provide high-quality, evidence-based care to patients requiring close observation and specialized nursing support. You’ll play an essential role in monitoring complex conditions, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, and ensuring a smooth transition for patients between critical care and general medical-surgical units.

About the unit

The IMCU is a 24 bed unit that provides care for higher acuity patients in neuro, cardiac, respiratory, surgical, and renal. Typical patients include respiratory failure/congestive heart failure, chronic trached ventilator patients, stroke and seizure patients, MI cardiac patients, Renal hemodialysis, and post op surgical patients with extensive wounds such as decubs, VAT's, ortho, and ostomy. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

Education

• Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
• Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.
