Job Levels and Responsibilities:
- Clinical Nurse I: Integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet patient and family needs. Assists healthcare team with prevention, wellness, and comfort. Provides direction, education, and begins leadership development. Delivers and documents age-specific care based on medical orders and multidisciplinary plans. Safely administers medications, identifying interactions.
- Clinical Nurse II: Demonstrates mastery of clinical skills, applies knowledge to specific patient populations. Recognizes and intervenes in patient situation changes. Mobilizes resources for patient needs. Provides direction, education, and assumes leadership at the unit level. Delivers and documents age-specific care, safely administers medications.
- Clinical Nurse III: Demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level, applies to specific populations. Anticipates patient changes and intervenes. Serves as a role model and provides leadership. Delivers and documents age-specific care, safely administers medications.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements:
- Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible/compact state for hiring and continued employment.
- AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent for continued employment.
Experience:
- Clin I: None required; preferred experience as LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner.
- Clin II: 12-24 months RN experience.
- Clin III: 3 years clinical experience.
Education/Training:
- Diploma or Associate’s Degree from an approved nursing program for all levels.
- All RNs without a Bachelor's degree must enroll in an RN to BSN program within two years and complete it within five years unless grandfathered.
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing; Clin III: Certification in specialty area.
Additional Requirements:
- Follows physician/provider orders and practices within Virginia nursing regulations.
- Guided by ANA Code of Ethics and national standards.
- Supervises and delegates tasks to team members.
- Work all shifts, including weekends and holidays; schedule varies.
- Physical activity includes lifting, prolonged standing, walking, climbing, reaching, and exposure to hazards.
- Serves appropriate age groups based on unit assignment.
