Clinical Nurse Positions
Clinical Nurse I
  • Role Overview: Integrates technical skills and knowledge to meet patient and family needs.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Assist in preventing illness and promoting wellness.
    • Provide education and develop leadership skills.
    • Deliver and document age-specific care based on medical orders and multidisciplinary plans.
    • Safely administer medications and identify potential incompatibilities.
Clinical Nurse II
  • Role Overview: Demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies knowledge to specific patient populations.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Recognize and respond to changes in patient conditions.
    • Mobilize resources to meet patient needs.
    • Provide leadership, education, and direction.
    • Document and administer care and medications accurately.
Clinical Nurse III
  • Role Overview: Applies advanced clinical knowledge and serves as a role model.
  • Key Responsibilities:
    • Anticipate and intervene in patient situations.
    • Provide guidance and education to staff and patients.
    • Deliver and document age-specific care based on medical orders and care plans.
    • Administer medications safely, identifying interactions.

Requirements for Hire
  • Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible/compact state.
  • Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.
Experience & Education
  • Clin I: No experience required; diploma or associate degree in nursing; must enroll in RN to BSN within 2 years if applicable.
  • Clin II: 12-24 months RN experience; preferred experience as LPN, nursing assistant, or care partner.
  • Clin III: 3 years clinical experience; preferred BSN or higher; certification in specialty area.
Additional Details
  • Work all shifts, including weekends and holidays; schedule flexible per unit needs.
  • Physical requirements include lifting 20-50 lbs., exposure to hazardous substances, and physical activity such as standing, walking, and reaching.
  • Practice guided by Virginia regulations, ANA Code of Ethics, and VCUHS policies.
