Job summary

UP Health System - Marquette is seeking an ICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join a 24-bed ICU/IMCU capable unit with a high-acuity patient population. The role emphasizes comprehensive nursing care, collaboration with the care team, and ongoing education and support for patients and families.

The position offers a $7,500 sign-on bonus for qualified applicants, a 0.9 FTE schedule, and rotating weekends/holidays within a 6 x 12-hour shift pattern. Michigan RN license required; BSN preferred.

Qualifications

• Current Michigan RN license or compact state license.
• Associate degree from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs plan of care interventions including medication administration and clinical treatments.
• Documents patient care accurately.
• Monitors and communicates patient condition to care team, physician, patient and family.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living and mobility.
• Collaborates across disciplines for transfers, discharges, referrals and psychosocial support.
• Assesses learning needs and provides patient/family education.
• Advocates for the patient’s physical and emotional well-being.

Job Type: Full-Time | 0.9 FTE or 72 hours/pp

Schedule: 6 x 12-hour Varied Shifts, 7-7, Rotating Weekends and Holidays

More about our team

ICU has 24 total beds with the ability to care for ICU and IMCU patient populations with care aide support. This team supports open heart, neuro surg, CRRT programs, as the level 2 trauma center for the UP of Michigan, Cath lab and Interventional radiology perform high risk PCI and high-risk procedures. ClinicalEducator is located on the unit and follows the ECCOs program for orientation. Acuity changes from high ICU census to high IMCU census.

How you'll contribute

An ICU RN who excels in this role:

• Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitors, records, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
• Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
• Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
• Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a current Michigan RN license and possess an associate's degree from an accredited nursing school (bachelor's preferred).

• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS-HCP)
• Handle with Care- Advanced (within 90 days)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (within 1 year)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (within 1 year)
• Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) (within 1 year)
• Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) (within 1 year)
