Job summary

Methodist ER De Zavala Rd in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for a PRN role in the Freestanding ER. The RN coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in collaboration with physicians and the care team.

The ideal candidate holds an active Texas RN license or compact license, plus ACLS/BCLS and TNCC with ENPC or PALS within specified timelines. Prior ER experience is preferred; benefits and scheduling support are provided.

Qualifications

• Minimum six months of clinical RN experience.
• Current Texas RN license or Multi-State Compact license.
• ACLS, BCLS must be current or obtained within specified timelines.
• TNCC and ENPC/PALS certifications preferred or to be obtained per policy.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.
• Collaborate with providers and care team in the ER setting.
• Document care in the patient record promptly and accurately.
• Educate patients and families about conditions, treatments and follow-up.

Job Summary and Qualifications

The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and other members of the care team, the RN provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as “Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage.” The RN serves as an advocate for patients/families/caregivers and models a commitment to the organization’s vision/mission/values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance.

• Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention.
• Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Documents the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
• Performs exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
• Teaches patients/families/caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
• Teaches patients/families/caregivers about any non-medicinal follow-up measures, such as healthy diet and exercise, disease prevention, and/or other lifestyle changes. Prepares patients and families/caregivers for future self-management.

What qualifications you will need:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Trauma Nursing Core Course must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date
• (RN) Registered Nurse
• Bachelors Degree, or Associate Degree, or Registered Nurse Diploma
• Emergency Nurse Pediatric Cour, or PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
• Graduate of an accredited diploma, associates, or baccalaureate degree registered nursing program.

• Minimum of six (6) months of clinical experience as a licensed Registered Nurse
• Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or Multi-State Compact License (Employees with RN Compact License are required to obtain Texas RN License within 60 days of hire date).

Methodist ER DeZavala serves the Northwest and surrounding areas with our 24/7 freestanding emergency center. This 8,100 square foot facility includes 9 all-private treatment rooms and a full range of services. These services include radiology, a full-service laboratory and telemetry. We offer the benefit of immediate intervention for emergencies where treatment time is critical. We provide 24-hour monitoring and testing of patients, such as chest pain cases. Our compassionate team of medical professionals work to stabilize critical patients and transport, should they need hospitalization, to a Methodist hospital in San Antonio. Our service is unmatched!
