Job summary

OrthoNebraska is seeking an Extended Recovery RN to provide high-quality, patient-centered care for post-operative orthopedic patients requiring extended recovery or overnight care. The role includes monitoring conditions, managing pain, promoting early mobility, and preparing patients for discharge, working with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize outcomes.

Shifts are three 12-hour periods, 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM, with built-in weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Provide care appropriate to age/weight of patients served.
• Perform technical skills competently to assure patient safety.
• Knowledge of surgical operation procedures and perioperative care.
• Assess patients prior to surgery and provide perioperative care.
• Knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques.

Position Summary

Position Summary: The Extended Recovery RN, s responsible for providing high-quality patient-centered care to post-operative orthopedic patients requiring extended recovery or overnight care. This role involves monitoring patient conditions, managing pain, preventing complications, encouraging early mobility, preparing patients for their discharge home, and ensuring a safe recovery process. The Extended Recovery nurse will work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, hospitalists, nurse navigators, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes and maintain safety standards. Hours/Schedule: 36 / Three (3) 12-Hour shifts, 6:45p - 7:15a + built in weekends and holidays

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age /weight of the patients served.

Essential Job Functions

• Performs an initial and ongoing assessment to determine the assigned patient's ongoing nursing care needs.
• Develops/reviews/revises and individualizes the plan of care to address the patient's nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcome.
• Implements interventions consistent with the established plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner.
• Evaluates patient care to determine response to care/interventions for optimal patient outcome.
• Maintains a professional behavior in attitudes, demeanor, interactions to achieve organization's mission.
• Initiates action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risk(s) to the patient, family or hospital employees (i.e., falls, needle sticks, patient concerns).
• Comply with safety activities, policies and procedures and regulatory requirements such as OSHA and The Joint Commission.
• Participate in performance improvement activities.
• Attend and participate in department meetings.
• Attend mandatory educational programs.
• Follow established guidelines as stated in hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
• Responsible for all other duties as assigned.
