Job summary

OrthoNebraska is seeking an Extended Recovery RN to provide high-quality postoperative nursing care for orthopedic patients. The role includes monitoring, pain management, early mobility, and preparing patients for discharge, in collaboration with surgeons and care teams.

Hours: two 12-hour shifts weekly (6:45a–7:15p) with weekend/holiday rotation. Must pass background check, pre-employment physical, and drug screening. Active licensure required.

Position Summary

The Extended Recovery RN, s responsible for providing high-quality patient-centered care to post-operative orthopedic patients requiring extended recovery or overnight care. This role involves monitoring patient conditions, managing pain, preventing complications, encouraging early mobility, preparing patients for their discharge home, and ensuring a safe recovery process. The Extended Recovery nurse will work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, hospitalists, nurse navigators, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes and maintain safety standards.

Hours/Schedule: 24 / Two (2) 12-hour shifts per week 6:45a - 7:15p + built in weekend and holiday rotation

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age /weight of the patients served.
• Performs technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety.

Essential Job Functions

• Performs an initial and ongoing assessment to determine the assigned patient’s ongoing nursing care needs.
• Develops/reviews/revises and individualizes the plan of care to address the patient’s nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcome.
• Implements interventions consistent with the established plan of care in a safe and appropriate manner.
• Evaluates patient care to determine response to care/interventions for optimal patient outcome.
• Maintains a professional behavior in attitudes, demeanor, interactions to achieve organization’s mission.
• Initiates action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risk(s) to the patient, family or hospital employees (i.e., falls, needle sticks, patient concerns).
• Comply with safety activities, policies and procedures and regulatory requirements such as OSHA and The Joint Commission.
• Participate in performance improvement activities.
• Attend and participate in department meetings.
• Attend mandatory educational programs.
• Follow established guidelines as stated in hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
• Responsible for all other duties as assigned.
