Job summary

OrthoNebraska is seeking an Extended Recovery RN to provide high-quality patient-centered care for post-operative orthopedic patients requiring extended recovery or overnight care. The role involves monitoring, pain management, early mobility, and discharge preparation, in collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals.

Shifts are two 12-hour periods weekly (6:45a–7:15p) with built-in weekend and holiday rotation.

Qualifications

• RN licensed and able to provide post-operative extended recovery care.
• Experience with orthopedic patient care preferred.
• Able to work 12-hour shifts with weekend/holiday rotation.
• Must pass background check and pre-employment screening.

Responsibilities

• Perform initial and ongoing assessments to determine the patient’s nursing care needs.
• Develop, review, and revise the plan of care for optimum outcomes.
• Implement interventions safely according to the established plan of care.
• Evaluate patient response to care/interventions and adjust as needed.
• Maintain professional behavior, comply with safety policies and regulatory requirements.
• Attend department meetings and mandatory educational programs.
• Assist in quality/performance improvement activities.

Position Summary

The Extended Recovery RN, s responsible for providing high-quality patient-centered care to post-operative orthopedic patients requiring extended recovery or overnight care. This role involves monitoring patient conditions, managing pain, preventing complications, encouraging early mobility, preparing patients for their discharge home, and ensuring a safe recovery process. The Extended Recovery nurse will work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, hospitalists, nurse navigators, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes and maintain safety standards. Hours/Schedule: 24 / Two (2) 12-hour shifts per week 6:45a - 7:15p + built in weekend and holiday rotation

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age /weight of the patients served.
• Performs technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety.
• In-depth knowledge of surgical operation procedures
• Highly skilled at assessing patients prior to surgery and providing them with perioperative care
• Extensive knowledge of aseptic and sterile techniques
• Ability to collaborate with surgeons and other healthcare professionals
• Solid understanding of patient health and safety standards
• Excellent organizational skills

Essential Job Functions

• Develops/reviews/revises and individualizes the plan of care to address the patient's nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcome.

• Initiates action to correct, prevent, and/or minimize risk(s) to the patient, family or hospital employees (i.e., falls, needle sticks, patient concerns).
• Comply with safety activities, policies and procedures and regulatory requirements such as OSHA and The Joint Commission.
• Participate in performance improvement activities.
• Attend and participate in department meetings.
• Attend mandatory educational programs.
• Follow established guidelines as stated in hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
• Responsible for all other duties as assigned.
