Located in Largo, in the heart of Prince George’s County, our new state-of-the-art regional medical center (UM Capital Region Medical Center) will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services, and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients. In addition, our new space will allow us to expand our offerings as a community partner to help improve the health status of Prince George’s County residents.

Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Department
Part-time / Day Shift (7:30am - 8:00pm)

General Summary

This role is considered the minimum role for all nurses with more than 12 months of experience. Provides and coordinates independent care to patients within a clinical specialty as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements describe the general nature and level of work performed by personnel in this classification. They are not an exhaustive list of all job duties.

Clinical Practice:

  • Provides independent care to unit-specific patient populations; serves as a clinical resource for others, utilizing and integrating evidence into practice, and functioning effectively in roles specific to the unit.
  • Is accountable to patients and families for care processes and outcomes during an episode of care.
  • Is accountable to peers for advancing group practice on the unit and to the nurse manager for overall work performance.
  • Serves as an effective primary coordinating nurse; collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care addressing patient and family needs.

Service/Quality:

  • Assists in team development and evaluation of Patient and Family Centered Care principles, suggesting methods for improvement and participating in outcomes data collection.
  • Participates in initiatives addressing Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI).
  • Contributes to Performance Improvement, Evidence-Based Practice, or research at the unit level.
  • Complies with standards and participates in unit-level regulatory compliance activities.

Unit Operations:

  • Supports charge nurse decisions and performs charge role as needed.
  • Assists in developing clinical practice protocols and standards for the unit.
  • Participates in unit-based process activities such as Performance Improvement, Professional Development, and Teamwork; supports implementation of action plans.
  • Orients new staff to the unit decision-making structure and councils.

Professional Development:

  • Serves as preceptor, coach, and mentor to new nurses and students. Contributes to skills development and attends educational offerings independently.

Education & Experience

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or eligibility due to Compact agreements.
  • Up-to-date mandatory training and classes.
  • At least one year of nursing experience with solid clinical skills.
  • Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Current BLS certification; additional unit-specific licensure as required.
  • Maintains 10 contact hours of education every two years.
  • Recent applicable clinical experience.

  • Maintains competencies and pursues professional development.
  • Adheres to professional standards and guidelines.
  • Demonstrates effective communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
  • Proficient with computer systems for managing patient information.
  • Provides care appropriate to patient populations, understanding growth and development principles.

Ensures patient safety through participation in safety initiatives, reporting risks, and implementing policies. Develops good communication and working relationships with team members.

Compensation:

  • Pay Range: $39.81 - $50.75/hour
  • Other Compensation: Up to $20,000 Sign-On Bonus/Relocation Assistance/Shift differentials
