Qualifications

Position Summary

Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)


The Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN) provides comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care to individuals experiencing acute illness, injury, trauma, or medical emergencies. The ED RN rapidly assesses patient conditions, prioritizes care based on acuity, collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, and delivers evidence-based interventions in a fast-paced environment.



Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Patient Assessment and Care


  • Perform rapid triage and comprehensive patient assessments.

  • Prioritize patient care based on acuity and clinical presentation.

  • Monitor, assess, and document patient status, vital signs, and response to treatment.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.

  • Administer medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with physician orders and organizational policies.

  • Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient conditions.


Emergency and Critical Care Management


  • Provide emergency nursing care for medical, surgical, cardiac, neurological, pediatric, psychiatric, and traumatic emergencies.

  • Assist with resuscitation efforts, including Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) interventions.

  • Prepare patients for diagnostic testing, procedures, and emergency surgeries.

  • Operate and monitor specialized emergency department equipment.

  • Participate in disaster response and mass casualty events as required.


Collaboration and Communication


  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, advanced practice providers, technicians, respiratory therapists, case managers, and other healthcare professionals.

  • Serve as a patient advocate and coordinate care transitions.

  • Communicate clearly with patients and families regarding treatment plans and discharge instructions.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and patient care conferences.


Documentation and Compliance


  • Complete accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).

  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, state nurse practice acts, regulatory standards, and patient safety initiatives.

  • Support quality improvement and patient experience initiatives.


Patient and Family Education


  • Provide education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and follow-up care.

  • Promote health maintenance and disease prevention strategies.

  • Ensure understanding of discharge instructions and return precautions.



Required Qualifications


  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Certification (ENPC) certification or ability to obtain within designated timeframe.

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred.



Registered Nurse – Department

Emergency - Our Chelsea Emergency Department has experienced physicians and nurses with advanced training in emergency medicine that provide care 365 days a year in the 24-hour Emergency Department. More than 18,000 patients are treated each year for emergencies ranging from life threatening cardiac arrests and strokes, to major injuries and accidents, to more minor injuries. Facilities include a five bay observation center for observation and testing before returning home, as well as 20 private exam rooms adding a greater degree of privacy for patients.

Position Purpose

The Registered Nurse Provides quality patient centered care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs through competent clinical practice and application of the nursing process. They consistently integrate concepts of relationship-based care into practice and serves as a clinical and educational resource to others on the unit.



Shift Available

5pm-5am



Status Available

Full time, benefit eligible (72 hours per pay period – every two weeks)



Every 3rd weekend and holiday rotation required



Required Qualifications


  • Requires current Michigan Nursing License

  • Graduation from accredited nursing program

  • Experienced nurses preferred

  • New hires must have a BSN degree or must agree in writing to obtain their BSN within five years

  • Canadian Nurses are encouraged to apply
