Across all levels, the registered professional nurse is responsible for the direct and indirect total nursing care of their assigned patients. The RN also supervises assigned personnel. The position requires knowledge of department and hospital policies and procedures relevant to nursing care. Interpretive, interactive, consultative, management, and supervisory skills are essential. The ability to communicate effectively through spoken, written, auditory, or visual means is crucial. Skills in written communication, telephone, and manual dexterity are also required.
Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
Minimum of one year of nursing/patient care experience in an acute care setting is required.
Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or hold a Compact State Nursing License.
Current BLS certification is required.
Registered Nurses on designated units must maintain specific certifications. New nurses or recent graduates have one year to obtain the required specialty certifications, which include:
De-escalation training is required for BHU, ED units.
Note: ACLS or PALS certification demonstrates competence in BLS skills per American Heart Association guidelines. Holding current ACLS or PALS certification satisfies the BLS requirement; separate BLS certification is not necessary if these are current.
