Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Administer prescribed medications and document accurately.
• Triage illnesses and injuries and determine medical priority.
• Monitor vital signs and health progress; document outcomes.
• Conduct health screenings and maintain immunization compliance.
• Educate youth and staff on health topics and infection control.
• Provide CPR/First Aid training to staff as needed.
• Maintain controlled drug records and keep counts accurate.
• Monitor supplies and restock first-aid resources.
• Participate in treatment team meetings for care planning.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and regulations.

About Youth Opportunity & Orange Youth Academy

Youth Opportunity is a nationally recognized leader in residential and behavioral health treatment for at-risk youth. Orange Youth Academy in Orlando, Florida, is a secure Youth Academy serving males ages 13 to 17, offering trauma-informed care for mental health and substance abuse needs. The program integrates clinical therapy, education, restorative justice, therapeutic recreation, and life skills development. Youth typically stay based on treatment progress, participating in individual, family, and group therapy; victim impact awareness; pre-vocational preparation; and enrichment activities such as art, music, and recreation. Small group living units and licensed dietitian-managed nutrition support stabilization and reintegration planning.

About the Role

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide compassionate, high-quality medical care to youth in a residential treatment environment. You will collaborate closely with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure each youth receives individualized, holistic care that promotes both physical and emotional well-being.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer prescribed medications and ensure accurate documentation
• Triage illness and injuries each shift, determine medical priority, and treat within scope of practice
• Monitor and document vital signs, medical progress, and health outcomes
• Conduct required health screenings and maintain immunization compliance
• Educate youth and staff on health topics, including universal precautions and communicable disease prevention
• Provide or coordinate CPR, first aid, and other medical training for staff as required
• Maintain controlled drug records and complete shift-to-shift medication counts
• Monitor and replenish health/first aid supplies, including AED and emergency kits
• Participate in treatment team meetings to support interdisciplinary care planning
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and state healthcare regulations
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required

• Active and unrestricted RN license in the State of Florida
• At least 2 years of professional nursing experience
• CPR certification
• Ability to pass background check and drug screening

Preferred

• Experience working with youth in residential, behavioral health, or correctional settings

Physical Demands

• Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable
• Able to actively engage with youth, participate in physical interventions, and transport youth or staff as needed
• Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state
• Must pass evaluation of physical techniques and certification exams

• Valid state driver's license
• Must meet state criminal background check requirements
• Flexibility to work variable hours as needed
