Job summary

Youth Opportunity is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to join Kissimmee Youth Academy in Kissimmee, FL. The role provides compassionate medical care in a residential treatment setting, collaborating with physicians, therapists, and care teams to support youths’ physical and emotional well-being.

The RN will administer medications, monitor vitals, and ensure HIPAA-compliant documentation while upholding safety standards and state regulations.

Qualifications

  • Active and unrestricted RN license in the State of Florida.
  • At least 2 years of professional nursing experience.
  • CPR certification.
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Administer prescribed medications and ensure accurate documentation.
  • Triage illness and injuries each shift, determine medical priority, and treat within scope of practice.
  • Monitor and document vital signs, medical progress, and health outcomes.
  • Conduct required health screenings and maintain immunization compliance.
  • Educate youth and staff on health topics, including universal precautions and communicable disease prevention.
  • Provide or coordinate CPR, first aid, and other medical training for staff as required.
  • Maintain controlled drug records and complete shift-to-shift medication counts.
  • Monitor and replenish health/first aid supplies, including AED and emergency kits.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings to support interdisciplinary care planning.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and state healthcare regulations.

Location: Kissimmee, FL

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: $70,000 - $76,000/ year

Schedule: Day Shift 12-hour shifts

About Youth Opportunity & Kissimmee Youth Academy

Youth Opportunity is a nationally recognized leader in residential and behavioral health treatment for at-risk youth. Kissimmee Youth Academy in Kissimmee, Florida, is a secure Youth Academy providing trauma-informed residential care for males ages 14 to 18. The program focuses on mental health and substance abuse treatment, offering a structured environment that combines clinical therapy, education, and enrichment activities. Youth receive individualized treatment based on their needs, participating in individual, group, and family therapy, as well as life skills training, restorative justice practices, victim impact awareness, and pre-vocational preparation. Licensed professionals provide 24/7 care in small group living units, and a licensed dietitian oversees nutritional support to promote stabilization and successful reintegration into the community.

Youth typically remain in care for 3 to 6 months for intensive mental health services (or 30 to 60 days for sub-acute psychiatric treatment), participating in individual, family, and group therapy; social and life skills training; victim-impact awareness; restorative justice programming; and pre-vocational preparation. Programming is designed to support emotional stabilization, family engagement, and successful reintegration into home and community settings.

About the Role

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide compassionate, high-quality medical care to youth in a residential treatment environment. Qualifications

Physical Demands
  • Must be in good physical health and emotionally stable
  • Able to actively engage with youth, participate in physical interventions, and transport youth or staff as needed
  • Must be free of communicable diseases as defined by the state
  • Must pass evaluation of physical techniques and certification exams
Other Requirements
  • Valid state driver’s license
  • Must meet state criminal background check requirements
  • Flexibility to work variable hours as needed
