Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking passionate nurses and upcoming/recent RN graduates to join our Float Pool across IU Health facilities. The Clinical Nurse – Resource role provides comprehensive, evidence-based care while supporting multiple units based on real-time staffing needs.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, advance clinical skills, and grow within a culture that values adaptability and professional development for Hoosier patients and communities.

Qualifications

  • Requires ASN; BSN preferred. BSN required for those newly hired or promoted after Oct 1, 2025
  • Requires active RN license in Indiana or NLC RN License
  • 2 years of acute care experience preferred; exceptions may apply
  • BLS certification must be obtained prior to orientation
  • Additional Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department
  • Must be highly adaptable, confident, and skilled in managing change
  • Experience in multiple specialties or willingness to broaden clinical scope

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate competent, evidence-based care across the continuum—from assessment to evaluation
  • Participate in clinical decision-making, teaching, and mentoring with multidisciplinary teams
  • Float across inpatient settings (medical-surgical, progressive care, critical care, emergency, specialty units) to meet staffing needs

Description

The Clinical Nurse Resource serves as a vital member of the Indiana University Health system float pool, embodying the mission, vision, and values of IU Health. Reflects a commitment to excellence, integrity, and compassionate care, while adhering to the organization’s Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance standards, and all relevant policies, procedure and accreditation requirements. Accountable for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care across the continuum – from assessment and diagnosis to outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Actively participates in clinical decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to advance patient care plans, achieve optimal outcomes, and enhance operational efficiency. Adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statement, ensuring professional integrity and high-quality care in every setting.

Requires system-wide flexibility & clinical versatility to provide essential coverage across a wide range of inpatient settings—including medical-surgical, progressive care, critical care, emergency, and specialty units—based on real-time staffing needs and patient acuity. Requires the ability to float seamlessly between multiple IU Health Facilities, offering a unique opportunity to expand clinical expertise, build cross-functional relationships, and support care delivery across the system.

Qualifications
  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred. Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) required for those newly hired or promoted into the position after October 1, 2025
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN License.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program. 2 years of experience preferred.
  • Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification – American Heart Association (AHA) – must be obtained prior to the start of orientation..
  • Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Requires incumbent to be highly adaptable, confident, and skilled in managing change.
  • Experienced in multiple specialties or eager to broaden clinical scope required.
  • Must possess strong communication skills with excellent critical thinking and organizational skills.
