Overview

The psychiatric treatment of children and adolescents with severe emotional, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental disabilities is best accomplished within a comprehensive treatment program specifically designed to meet individualized needs. Southwood Psychiatric Hospital has created an Intellectual Developmental Disability / Autism Spectrum Disorder (IDD/ASD) Residential Treatment Program in Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania, providing treatment for up to 44 males aged 6 to 21 years.

Responsibilities

Essential functions of the Registered Nurse include:

• Assessing patients’ physical and behavioral health needs and coordinating care accordingly.
• Developing and implementing nursing care plans.
• Maintaining medical records and educating patients and families about health conditions.
• Providing nursing care within the scope of practice as defined by state regulations and facility policies.
• Ensuring physicians’ orders are accurately transcribed and documented.
• Monitoring patients’ status continuously and documenting pertinent information.
• Alerting physicians to significant changes or emergencies.
• Completing initial and ongoing nursing treatment plans tailored to patient needs.
• Applying universal precautions and administering medications accurately.
• Documenting medication administration and managing admission/discharge processes efficiently.
• Building therapeutic rapport while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Coordinating unit activities and communicating professionally with all involved parties.

Qualifications

Required:

• Graduation from an accredited nursing school.
• Current RN license or eligibility to practice in the state.
• At least one year of nursing experience; psychiatric or behavioral health experience is a plus.
• CPR, de-escalation, and restraint certification (training provided upon hire).
