Job summary

Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, IL is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Emergency Department Behavioral Health Pods on a full-time night shift (7pm–7:30am). The role involves delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients with behavioral health needs and coordinating with a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities include patient assessments, crisis intervention, education for patients and families, administering medications, documenting histories, and supporting recovery and safety

Qualifications

• BLS certification required.
• Knowledge of mental health laws and practice standards.
• Behavioral health nursing experience or training.
• Familiarity with interdisciplinary treatment team processes in BH units.
• Ability to educate patients and families about conditions and treatment.

Responsibilities

• Treat patients and provide medical and mental health education.
• Run therapeutic groups and participate in crisis intervention.
• Record histories, assist with tests, administer medications, and operate medical equipment.
• Support follow-up care, rehabilitation, and self-management education.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary care team to ensure quality patient outcomes.

Location: Aurora, IL

Responsibilities

Registered nurses (RNs) perform basic duties that include treating patients, educating patients about mental and medical conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients’ and/or family members, running therapeutic groups, psychiatric crisis intervention, seclusion and restraint of patients. RNs record patients’ medical histories and symptoms, help to perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operate medical machinery, administer treatment and medications, and help with patient follow-up and rehabilitation. RNs teach patients and their families how to manage their illness or injury, diet and exercise programs, and self-administration of medication and physical therapy. Other related duties.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

• 1. Must have current and valid State license as a Registered Nurse.
• 2. Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
• 3. Working knowledge of Mental Health Laws and practice standards.
• 4. Working knowledge of interdisciplinary treatment team process, behavioral health programming and daily nursing functions for inpatient and outpatient behavioral health units.
• 5. Working knowledge of the continuum of care for behavioral health care.
