The Registered Nurse assumes primary leadership accountability and responsibility for milieu management and directing patient care activities of other nursing staff. The Registered Nurse maintains standards of professional nursing practice in accordance with facility policy and procedures, external governing and credentialing bodies, performance improvement standards, and psychiatric nursing standards. The Registered Nurse assesses the patient utilizing the nursing process to formulate an individualized plan of care, implements interventions, and evaluates outcomes to promote, maintain, and restore physical and mental health, and prevent illness. The Registered Nurse interprets age/disability-specific information relevant to the client population served. The Registered Nurse provides for the safe delivery of medication according to policies, physician's orders, and current practices. The Registered Nurse is responsible for accurate reporting and documentation of the patient's symptoms, responses, and progress. The nurse also assumes responsibility for professional development, continuing education, and licensure maintenance, all in accordance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans' Mission, policies, procedures, and Performance Improvement Standards.

Essential Functions:

1. Utilizes the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation to develop individualized care and treatment plans.
2. Identifies risk levels, precautions, and expected outcomes; includes discharge planning; prescribes and evaluates interventions to attain expected outcomes; conducts ongoing assessments from admission to discharge; initiates crisis interventions as needed.
3. Demonstrates knowledge of psychiatric disorders and implements appropriate nursing interventions tailored to patient needs, promoting wellness and addressing maintenance of health.
4. Administers medications safely, educates patients on medication use, and recognizes adverse reactions.
5. Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and responsibility for decision-making and quality care.
6. Maintains accurate medical records, transcribes and implements physician's orders, and documents care thoroughly and concisely.
7. Ensures continuity of care by following up on responsibilities and communicating with staff about client needs.
8. Delegates duties appropriately, assists staff and patients, and advocates for patient safety.
9. Uses nursing knowledge to meet facility, patient, and staff needs, utilizing evidence-based practices.
10. Floats among various clinical services as qualified and performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Current, valid RN license in the state of employment; Compact licenses accepted.
• Minimum of an Associate Degree in Nursing; inpatient hospital experience preferred.
• Ability to handle high stress, communicate effectively, and serve culturally diverse populations.
• Knowledge of physical and emotional development, critical thinking, and self-confidence in leadership.
• CPR certification and completion of Oceans-approved behavioral health de-escalation program.

Must be able to cope with a high-paced, stressful environment, with potential exposure to odors, sights, and unpredictable patient behavior. Shifts are 12 hours, rotating, with many interruptions and inquiries. The position involves working mostly indoors, with some temperature variations.
