Job summary

Cape Fear Valley Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to plan and implement professional nursing care according to hospital policies. The RN will assume charge nurse responsibilities as assigned and maintain accurate patient care records.

The unit includes a 12-bed female population with a 1:5 patient ratio and a track schedule. Requirements: ADN, NC RN licensure; BSN preferred; BLS certification.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree in Nursing required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Current licensure in North Carolina as an RN or Compact state licensure.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient care needs and organize appropriate care.
• Plan, implement, and evaluate patient care with a patient-centered approach.
• Administer medications as ordered by physician.
• Act as charge nurse when assigned.

Major Job Functions

• Assesses the patient and identifies patient care needs
• Uses patient assessment information to organize appropriate patient care
• Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates patient care
• Facilitates a safe environment
• Maintains required competencies
• Functions as charge nurse as assigned
• Maintains an accurate and relevant record of patient care
• Administers medication as ordered by physician
• Recognizes life threatening situations and responds appropriately
• Establishes collaborative interdisciplinary relationships with other Health System staff and medical staff
• Monitors the quality of care based on pre-established outcome-oriented indicators
• Actively participates in cost containment and assists in accurate charging for patient services
• Adjusts care based upon age-specific physiological and psychosocial needs of patients
• Supports patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of medical regimen
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Formal Training

• Associates Degree in Nursing required
• Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred
• Current licensure in North Carolina as a Registered Nurse or Compact state licensure

Unit Description

4 VPN is a 12-Bed female unit with all private rooms., working on a track schedule. Patient ratio 1:5. Our patients include female patients with the following diagnosis or treatments who do not require telemetry, critical drip infusions or ventilator support:

• Bariatric Surgeries
• Sleeve Gastrectomy's
• Gastric Bypass
• Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy
• Laparoscopic Appendectomy
• GYN Surgeries
• Overflow of mother & baby
• Urology Surgeries
• Breast Surgeries
• All Abdominal/Bowel Surgeries
• Incision & Drainage/Wound Infections
• General Trauma Surgeries

Work Experience

1-2 years of related clinical experience preferred.

• Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills
• Verbal and written skills required
• Demonstrates effective organizational and leadership skills
• Has knowledge of the age-specific physiological and psychosocial, developmental and spiritual needs of the patients typically served

Physical Requirements

• Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs
• Visual acuity for observation of patients
• Much standing, walking, bending, and lifting
• May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials
