Job summary

Boston Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Menino PACU Department. The role covers PACU and Pre-Operative care with 36-hour night schedules, including every 3rd weekend. You will provide direct patient care, assessments, and care coordination in a high-acuity environment.

Required is a Nursing degree (Diploma/ASN/BSN; BSN preferred) with Massachusetts RN licensure, BLS, and likely PALS/ACLS. PACU/ICU experience is strongly preferred and clinical excellence is expected.

Qualifications

  • Licensed to practice professional nursing in Massachusetts.
  • Current BLS certification; PALS and ACLS commonly required.
  • 1+ year of nursing experience in PACU/ICU/ED preferred.
  • Ability to follow department policies and standards.

Position: Registered Nurse
Location: Menino PACU (Outpatient/Inpatient Surgery)
Schedule: 36 hours, Nights, Every 3rd Weekend
ABOUT THE MENINO PACU DEPARTMENT AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER:

The Menino Post Anesthesia Care Unit/Pre-Operative Unit on the new integrated procedural platform consists of 52 bays. All 52 bays provide advanced Intensive Care monitoring as well as Pre-Operative care. Pre-Op and PACU functions as a holding area for our procedural patients requiring specialized cardiac and interventional care. The department also functions as a high acuity recovery area stabilizing many directly from the OR/Procedural areas after surgery.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The registered nurse adheres to the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing rules and regulations and is primarily responsible for professional performance and direct patient care. The role encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families across the healthcare continuum. The registered nurse is accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient care outcomes using the model of care designed by the nursing department and following established agency policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and standards of practice

EDUCATION:

Nursing Degree Required: Diploma, ASN, or BSN (BSN preferred). Must obtain BSN within 4 years if not currently held.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Licensed to practice professional nursing as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Requires current basic life support (BLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life support (ACLS) certification
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
  • Basic computer proficiency is inclusive of the ability to access, enter and interpret computerized data/information.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to facilitate communication with various health care team members, patients, and families.
  • Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
  • Multilingual skills (beyond that of English) in languages appropriate to the patient populations served by the medical center preferred.
  • Relevant clinical experience and/or specialty, certification required for certain practice areas, e.g., enters total therapy, epidemiology, peri-operative areas.
  • Analytical ability to solve clinical nursing issues and conduct quality improvement research utilization projects.
  • Ability to effectively delegate appropriate patient care activities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills appropriate to the patient populations served.
  • Physical ability to meet the core job responsibilities following practice setting demands for the patient populations regularly served.
  • Ability to effectively manage stress due to critical issues related to patient care, changing organizational climate, and personnel issues.
EXPERIENCE:
  • 1 + years of nursing experience required
  • Critical Care experience required (PACU, ED, ICU)
  • Previous/Current PACU experience strongly preferred

Compensation Range:

$38.05- $75.33

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to position requirements.
