Job summary

Odessa Regional Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) on a PRN basis. You will care for patients recovering from anesthesia and surgery, performing vital signs checks and neuro status assessments, and coordinating with the surgical team.

The role requires an active Texas RN license with BLS and ACLS; PALS is preferred. Prior PACU or perioperative experience is highly valued, and compassionate, patient-centered care is essential.

Qualifications

• Active RN license required in Texas and current BLS/ACLS certifications.
• PALS is preferred for this PACU RN role.
• Minimum of 1 year of RN experience in a surgical/ PACU setting.

Responsibilities

• Check blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation and temperature.
• Monitor level of consciousness and orientation of patients.
• Administer medications for pain and nausea.
• Identify signs of bleeding, hypotension or arrhythmias.
• Dress wounds and assess surgical drains.
• Educate patients and families on post‑operative care.
• Update surgeons and anesthesiologists on patient status.
• Transfer patients to the next destination within a few hours.

Job Summary:

As an PACU Registered Nurse, you will care for patients recovering from anesthesia and surgery in a Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).

• Check blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and temperature
• Check the patient's level of consciousness and orientation
• Administer medications to treat pain and nausea
• Look for signs of bleeding, low blood pressure, or arrhythmias
• Dress wounds and assess drains
• Teach patients and their families about post-operative care
• Update surgeons and anesthesiologists on the patient's condition
• Transfer patients to the next destination, usually within a few hours

Qualifications:

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
• BLS and ACLS certifications
• PALS preferred
• Minimum 1 year of experience required
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
