Job summary

UCF Lake Nona Hospital in Orlando, FL is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to support perioperative care and patient education before and after surgery.

You will work within a dynamic interdisciplinary team, coordinating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and staff to ensure patient safety and high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced operating room environment.

Qualifications

  • Florida RN license and/or approved multistate license required with 60 days to obtain Florida license after relocation.
  • 1+ years RN experience in an acute care environment preferred.
  • Registered Nurse Diploma or Associate/Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • NIH Stroke Scale within 30 days of employment start.
  • BCLS Instructor or equivalent within 30 days of start date.
  • ACLS Provider card within 6 months of start date.
  • CNOR preferred; PALS Provider within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patients prior to surgery and provide education on perioperative process.
  • Prepare patients including IV therapy and preoperative medications, verify surgical site.
  • Participate in site verification, time-out, debriefing per hospital policy.
  • Detect and respond to patient emergencies and ensure high-quality, evidence-based care.
  • Collaborate with provider, surgeons, and surgical technologists within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Apply nursing process, critical thinking, and leadership to deliver safe care.
  • Monitor patient condition and document changes during the shift.
  • Educate patients and families about condition, treatment, and follow-up.

Job Summary And Qualifications
Position Details
  • Self/preferential scheduling posted four weeks in advance for you to have predictability in your schedule
  • Culture of mutual respect and collaboration among all surgical staff
  • Continuous investment in equipment including surgical instruments, devices and patient positioning for you to do your best work with patient safety and workflow efficiency in the Operating Room
  • Rounding with unit leaders, including charge nurses, to ensure your voice is heard on suggestions for patient care and surgical workflow improvement
  • On-call is required during select non-business hours
What you will do in this role
  • Evaluate patients prior to surgery
  • Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure and peri-operative process
  • Assume responsibility for patient preparation, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification
  • Participate in surgical site verification, including briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols, according to hospital policy
  • Recognize and respond to patient emergencies
  • Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while managing evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Be an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team – consisting of the provider(s), surgeons, surgical technologists and more
  • Consistently apply the nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, technical skills and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care to patients
  • Assess patient condition, monitor throughout your shift, and document changes in patient condition along with the care provided thoroughly
  • Educate patients and families/caregivers about the patient’s medical condition, treatment and follow-up measures
What qualifications you will need
  • Florida RN license and/or approved multistate RN license required. Compact license holders have 60 days to obtain the Florida license after relocation.
  • 1+ years of RN experience in an acute care environment preferred
  • Registered Nurse Diploma, or Associate Degree, BSN is preferred
  • NIH Stroke Scale must be obtained within 30 days of employment start
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support, or BCLS Instructor must be obtained within 30 days of start
  • American Heart Association ACLS Provider issued card required within 6 months of employment start date
  • Minimum 1year previous perioperative experience
  • CNOR preferred
  • PALS-American Heart Association PALS Provider issued card required within 6 months
