Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking an Operating Room Nurse to deliver safe, high‑quality care before, during, and after procedures. You’ll assess patients, develop care plans, administer meds, and monitor outcomes with a multidisciplinary team in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

The role requires RN licensure in the state, ADN or higher, and CPR/BLS within 90 days. BSN preferred; involvement in performance improvement and ongoing education is encouraged.

Qualifications

• ADN required upon hire; BSN preferred.
• Licensed RN in state of practice.
• CPR/BLS certification required within 90 days; ACLS/PALS may be required per unit.

Overview: As an Operating Room Nurse, you will play a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures. Working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary team members, you will assess patients, implement individualized care plans, administer treatments, and monitor patient outcomes while ensuring adherence to clinical standards and patient safety practices. This role requires strong clinical judgment, collaboration, and a commitment to excellence in surgical care.Schedule: 10-hour shifts with call rotationShift: DaysESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESUtilizes the nursing process and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members in caring for patients.Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques, policies and procedures, standards of care, and State laws practice act.Documents according to standards of care.Performs assessments, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care.Develops, initiates, and executes a patient plan of care according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and or clinic policy including patient and family instruction.Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities, may include shared governance.Utilizes clinical expertise and guidance to other units’ departments in support of the patient’s longitudinal plan of care.Utilizes critical thinking regarding patient safety and patient experience and appropriately escalates to the appropriate chain of command.Participates in the professional nursing continuum process, unit practice activities and decisions and peer review process.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEGraduate of an accredited nursing program.ADN required upon hire, BSN preferred.May require specific years of applicable experience to qualify (per department guidelines)CERTIFICATION/LICENSURELicensed as an RN in state of practiceApproved CPR/BLS certification required within 90 daysOther certification(s) per unit requirements.
