Job summary

Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, MO, is seeking a Registered Nurse or Graduate Nurse Resident to join our Operating Room team. You will apply the nursing process to patient care during general, urology, plastics, and orthopedic surgeries, with day shifts and on-call hours.

New grads are welcome; 1 year OR experience preferred but not required. Must hold an RN license in Missouri and current BLS; ACLS as required.

Qualifications

• RN license required in hiring state; maintain current RN license.
• BLS certification required or obtained within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS certification as required or obtained within department timeframe.
• 1 year RN and/or OR experience preferred but graduates considered.

Responsibilities

• Utilize the nursing process to provide patient care in the OR.
• Coordinate patient care with preop, anesthesia, surgeons, and recovery staff.
• Maintain patient rights and confidentiality; document accurately.
• Train on equipment, positioning, and charting; may scrub/assist as needed.

Shift: Days + Additional Call Hours

Overview:

Mercy Hospital Southeast OR includes general surgery, 2 DaVinci Xis, urology, plastics, gyn, orthopedic, neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery.

Periop 101 through AORN is offered for new registered nurses.

Our staff provides a comforting environment for patients that are undergoing a surgical procedure. We work alongside preop staff, anesthesia providers, surgeons and recovery staff to safely provide care to patients needing an operation.

As nurses, we train on the equipment being used, proper positioning and prepping of the patient, and documentation of the patient record. There is opportunity to cross-trainand/or advance to scrub or First Assist in the cases as well.

Qualifications:

• Experience: 1 year of RN and/or previous OR experience preferred but not required. Will consider Graduate Nurses.
• Required Education: Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).
• Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support certification or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire. Other unit specific certifications including ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as required or acquisition of certification within department-required timeframe.
• Other:Physical requirements/demands:
  • Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift.
  • Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
