Job summary

Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, MO is seeking an Registered Nurse (or Graduate Nurse Resident) to join the Operating Room team. The role focuses on perioperative care using the nursing process, coordinating with anesthesia, surgeons, preop, and recovery staff to ensure safe operations.

New and experienced RNs may qualify for substantial incentives and loan- forgiveness programs, with opportunities to bridge ASN/BSN and BSN/MSN paths.

Qualifications

• Experience: 1 year of RN and/or previous OR experience preferred but not required. Will consider Graduate Nurses.
• Required Education: Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).
• Licensure: RN license required in hiring state and/or compact licensure; maintain per state BON requirements.
• Certifications: BLS certification required or to be completed within 30 days; ACLS or other unit-specific certifications as department requires.
• Physical requirements: Ability to push/pull/lift 50 pounds; prolonged standing/walking; bending/kneeling/twisting/squatting.

Overview

Mercy Hospital Southeast OR includes general surgery, 2 DaVinci Xis, urology, plastics, gyn, orthopedic, neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery.

Periop 101 through AORN is offered for new registered nurses.

Our staff provides a comforting environment for patients that are undergoing a surgical procedure. We work alongside preop staff, anesthesia providers, surgeons and recovery staff to safely provide care to patients needing an operation.

As nurses, we train on the equipment being used, proper positioning and prepping of the patient, and documentation of the patient record. There is opportunity to cross-train and/or advance to scrub or First Assist in the cases as well.

Qualifications

• Experience: 1 year of RN and/or previous OR experience preferred but not required. Will consider Graduate Nurses.
• Required Education: Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).
• Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support certification or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire. Other unit specific certifications including ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as required or acquisition of certification within department-required timeframe.
• Other: Physical requirements/demands:
  • Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift.
  • Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
