The Surgical Registered Nurse is responsible for nursing activities related to patient care during operative or invasive procedures. The nurse guides non-licensed personnel and cares for adult, geriatric, and pediatric patients from 1 month to adolescence, following age-specific competency standards.

Responsibilities:

1. Meet all deadlines and prioritize effectively.
2. Provide direct and indirect patient care, considering patient age and risk factors.
3. Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care.
4. Use sound nursing judgment and advocate for patients' physical and psychological needs.
5. Ensure patient autonomy, dignity, and rights during surgical interventions.
6. Identify patients, confirm informed consent, and ensure medical records are complete pre-operatively.
7. Respond to emergency calls as needed.
8. Practice sterile techniques and operate sterilizers correctly.
9. Coordinate care across disciplines and settings.
10. Supervise operating room personnel and recognize stressful situations for intervention.
11. Maintain or acquire necessary skills and operate equipment proficiently.
12. Perform circulating nurse duties and scrub duties if required.
13. Follow policies for counts, specimen handling, and room preparation/clean-up.
14. Document all procedures and care accurately.

Required Skills:

• Graduate from an accredited nursing school.
• At least one year of OR experience.
• Current Texas RN license.
• BLS certification.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize, and communicate tactfully.
• Knowledge of hospital policies related to OR nursing and proficiency in pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric care.
