Job Title: Registered Nurse - OR Circulator (PRN)

Essential Functions:

The delivery of patient care through the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, and patient outcomes) in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of the surgical patient.

Supervision Received:

Supervisor of Clinical Services

Education/Experience:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Registered Nurse License.
• Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Demonstrates current, comprehensive professional knowledge and skills according to recognized nursing standards, including the Patient Bill of Rights, JCAHO regulations, Standards for Nursing Care, and the Nurse Practice Act.
• Assesses physiological and psychosocial health status of patients.
• Completes patient history and assesses pain per policy.
• Verbally reports pertinent information to appropriate staff to ensure continuity of care.
• Legibly documents information in patient records, signing with the appropriate professional title.
• Assesses patient understanding and expectations of care.
• Identifies desired patient outcomes and establishes nursing diagnoses.
• Sets mutually acceptable patient/family goals and formulates a Plan of Care.
• Implements nursing care plans tailored to patient and family needs.
• Demonstrates ability to assess, problem-solve, and respond to emergencies.
• Practices within legal and ethical guidelines, including the Nurse Practice Act, legal statutes, ANA code for Nurses, and hospital policies.
• Performs nursing actions demonstrating accountability, flexibility, and safe judgment.
• Adjusts care plans based on patient and family data.
• Demonstrates proper preoperative communication and reporting.
• Performs proper surgical case counting, aseptic technique, and documentation.
• Properly obtains blood products, verifies patient identity, and identifies surgical site per policy.
• Anticipates surgeon’s needs during procedures and participates in professional nursing organizations.

Physical Demands:

Standing: 66-100%, Sitting: 0-33%, Walking: 66-100%, Lifting: up to 50 lbs., Carrying: up to 25 lbs., Pushing: up to 400 lbs. with assistance, Climbing stairs, Bending, Squatting, Reaching, Kneeling, and Rotating as necessary.

Environmental Conditions:

Primarily inside (95-100%), occasional outside (0-5%), temperature range 30°F-115°F, with occasional exposure to fumes, dust, odors, mist, radiation, and hazards. Personal Protective Equipment is provided.
