Role of the Registered Nurse (RN)

The RN's care includes:
- Establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships with patients and families, incorporating cultural and diversity considerations.
- Communicating and collaborating effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Respecting patient values, preferences, expressed needs, and healthcare knowledge in holistic care planning and evaluation.
Responsibilities
- Standards of Practice: The RN follows the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, utilizing assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation to deliver competent nursing care.
- Standards of Professional Performance: The RN demonstrates ethical practice, cultural competence, effective communication, collaboration, leadership, ongoing education, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, resource management, and environmental safety, maintaining accountability for their actions.
Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred. Current BCLS certification required within one month of hire.
Experience: All RNs are encouraged to advance through the SPIRE clinical program.
Licensure: Valid RN license in Connecticut; specialty certifications are highly encouraged.
Skills: Foundational RN skills; ongoing professional development encouraged.
Physical Demands: Prolonged standing, walking, sensory engagement, exposure to infectious diseases, physical and emotional stress, and the ability to assist with patient handling, including lifting up to 300 pounds.
Additional Information
Oncology experience is preferred.
