Job Overview
The Registered Nurse functions as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes. This role emphasizes expanding knowledge and skills, providing effective direct care as part of an interdisciplinary team for complex patients. The nurse oversees care provided by others through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination, and facilitates communication among nursing peers, physicians, and support staff.
Responsibilities
- Deliver nursing practices based on current evidence-based research, policies, and standards to ensure safe, personalized patient care.
- Perform comprehensive, age- and disease-specific assessments and data collection.
- Recognize changes in clinical and diagnostic status.
- Identify patient and family education needs, considering age, disease, and cultural differences.
- Develop and coordinate a care plan with patient and family-centered goals and outcomes.
- Communicate and implement the care plan effectively.
- Maintain ongoing communication with patients, families, and the healthcare team regarding patient status and care plans.
- Provide or coordinate patient education to ensure understanding.
- Document assessments, care plans, interventions, and evaluations electronically at point-of-care.
- Administer medications using advanced bar-scanning and documentation technologies to ensure safety.
- Participate in multidisciplinary discharges to ensure safe transitions of care.
- Evaluate progress toward outcomes and utilize critical thinking for patient care interventions.
- Respond to changes in patient condition and unforeseen responses to care.
- Identify and address ethical issues in practice.
- Enhance patient satisfaction through proactive care and communication.
- Maintain necessary competencies, certifications, and continuing education to meet accreditation and licensing standards.
- Adhere to the American Nurses Association Code for Nurses.
- Lift at least 35 lbs., push/pull 10 lbs., and stand for at least 6 hours daily.
- Follow organizational standards of behavior and additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of an associate degree in Nursing or diploma of Nursing.
- BSN in progress or willing to obtain within three years.
- Six months or more of relevant nursing experience or active participation in Hackensack Meridian Health's Nurse Residency Program.
- Quick learner with strong accountability, teamwork, ongoing education commitment, and high-quality patient care focus.
Preferred Qualifications
- National certification in a specialty area, if eligible.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid NJ State Registered Nurse License.
- BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.
