Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. The Registered Nurse (RN) assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and supervises individual patient care according to unit policies and procedures, including the PCU level patient. Provides supervision of non-RN personnel on the assigned unit. When assuming the charge role, delegates and supervises unit activities. May be required to work on other nursing units according to staff and patient distribution. Performs other duties as assigned to maintain high service levels.

Responsibilities

1. Assess patients' physical and psychosocial conditions continuously throughout care.
2. Develop, communicate, and document individualized care plans involving patients, families, and the healthcare team.
3. Implement and coordinate care plans collaboratively with the healthcare team.
4. Evaluate care effectiveness, patient responses, and discharge readiness; revise plans and make referrals as needed.
5. Plan and provide education based on assessed learning needs; document outcomes.
6. Serve as a preceptor to new staff.
7. Act as a charge nurse.
8. Ensure a safe environment for self and patients.
9. Meet performance expectations in Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development.
10. Perform other duties to ensure smooth department/unit operation.
11. Unit-Specific Responsibilities: Demonstrate lung assessment skills and instruct patients in breathing exercises.

Qualifications

Education

Graduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. Proficient in electronic health records and internet research for patient care literature.

Valid Connecticut RN license.

Skills

BLS certification required; ACLS within 6 months.
