Responsibilities

Job description

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for designated oncology patients
  • Collaborate and communicate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to proactively resolve patient needs
  • Apply critical thinking, attention to detail, and adaptability in changing situations
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, visitors, staff, and professional colleagues
  • Advocate for patients
  • Provide written and verbal education about medical terminology, treatment methodologies, personal care, symptom management, health promotion, and disease prevention
  • Support and guide patients throughout diagnosis and treatment
  • Refer patients and families to healthcare services and community resources
  • Communicate with interdisciplinary teams to prevent, correct, or minimize patient complications
  • Follow quality, safety, evidence-based practice, and research initiatives
  • Support department and hospital goals and participate in performance improvement processes
  • Use technology to optimize communication and patient-care delivery
  • Participate in team-building activities and mentor new staff
  • Delegate appropriately based on colleagues’ skills and expertise
  • Provide requested input on team members’ performance appraisals
  • Protect patients’ Protected Health Information in accordance with HIPAA and LVHN confidentiality policy
Requirements
  • Graduate of accredited Nursing program
  • Knowledge and competence reflecting current nursing practice
  • Ability to critically think and adapt to changing situations
  • Successful completion of additional orientation programs related to specialty
  • Ability to organize and prioritize patient-care assignments
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues
  • Knowledge of word processing, Electronic Health Records, and database software applications
  • BLS (Basic Life Support), American Heart Association, required upon hire
  • OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse), Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation, required within 3 years
  • RN - Licensed Registered Nurse, State of Pennsylvania, required upon hire, or NLC Compact State RN License, required upon hire
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
  • 1 year Acute Care and/or Oncology Nursing experience preferred
  • Ability to lift and carry 40-50 lbs.
  • Frequent to continuous standing/walking; patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift
  • May be required to kneel, bend, squat, and perform CPR
