Carroll Hospital in Westminster, Maryland, part of LifeBridge Health, is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the CDU. The RN will provide and coordinate nursing care, support telemetry patients, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to determine inpatient status or discharge within 24 hours.
Requirements include Maryland RN license or eligibility, NIHSS, BLS, and ACLS; Nursing Degree; less than one year experience accepted. Competitive pay plus benefits and retirement options.
CDU is a short stay unit comprised of 22 private beds.
The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 5:1 as well as Patient Care Tech support.
We see patients who have come from the emergency department and need further testing to determine if they meet inpatient status or can be discharged home.
The goal is for our patients to either be made inpatient or be discharged within 24 hours.
We see a wide variety of diagnoses including chest pain, rule out stroke patients, mild infections like cellulitis and urinary track infections (UTI), pneumonia, rule out seizure, anemia, Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
There are a mixture of telemetry and medical/surgical patients.
Nursing staff are trained to interpret heart rhythms, become advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) certified and National Institutes of Health (NIH) stroke scale certified.
We have strong interdisciplinary collaboration on the CDU.
Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) is a member of the Nursing Dept. The RN has responsibility and accountability for the provision of nursing care. The RN manages care for patients and their families through the application of the nursing process utilizing independent judgment, collaboration and communication with all team members including ancillary and support services. The RN provides and delegates patient care activities based upon patient needs and team skills/abilities and supervises the delivery of care by team. The RN evaluates patient response to treatment and nursing interventions, and as needed, revised the plan of care. The RN monitors patient progress and prepares patient for discharge.
