Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking an experienced NICU Registered Nurse to care for infants 32 weeks and older in a level III/IV NICU. The patient population often requires CPAP, feeding tubes, and continuous monitoring.

You will work with an interdisciplinary team to plan and implement therapies, with a 10-week orientation and 1:1 preceptorship. Night shift, full-time position in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Qualifications

• ASN required; BSN preferred.
• Active RN license in Indiana or NLC.
• Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program; exceptions if >2 years acute care experience.
• BLS certification required; other advanced life support may be required per unit.

Responsibilities

• Performing patient assessments and vital sign monitoring; blood draws.
• Administering medications, therapies and nutritional plans as prescribed.
• Inserting IV lines, drawing labs and administering tube feedings.
• Collaborating with NICU team including nurses, physicians and APPs.
• Providing comfort and support to infants and families.
• Assist NICU physicians in procedures and treatments.
• Use and adjust specialized medical equipment.
• Formulate nursing plans and evaluate treatment effectiveness.
• Comfort sick newborns and anxious family members.

Job description

We are seeking an individual with a minimum of one year of RN experience for this role.

We are looking for nurses that are passionate about the NICU patient population to care for infants that are 32 weeks and above, requiring extended hospitalization following a level III or IV NICU stay. These patients may require respiratory support up to CPAP, feeding tubes, or continuous monitoring for variations in vital signs.

Registered Nurses in this area will work within an interdisciplinary team including respiratory therapists, speech, occupational, and physical therapists, and lactation consultants. Together, this care team develops treatment planning and implementation of therapeutic interventions specific to each patient’s goals.

• Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program. Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
• Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
• Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
