Job summary

Winona Health in Winona, MN is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for Med-Surg-Peds at 0.90 FTE (72 hours per pay period). Shifts run days between 6:45 am and 7:15 pm, with every third weekend and every third holiday.

Starting pay ranges from $37.42 to $54.62 per hour, based on education and experience, plus a robust benefits package. The RN will deliver direct care to OB/GYN and Med/Surg patients, coordinate care plans, and may float to ICU as needed.

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
  • RN License in Minnesota.
  • BLS Certification.
  • ACLS Certification within six months to one year.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Certification within one year.
  • STABLE Certification within one year.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training provided with recertification every two years.
  • Trauma Training completed in house by end of orientation.
  • Verbalizes role in public address codes.
  • Basic computer skills: Microsoft Word and Outlook; Cerner EMR.

Responsibilities

Position Overview:

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a health care professional who is skilled in all aspects of the nursing process. They are adaptable to the myriad of needs of the individual and family during health and illness and has the ability to prioritize. The RN is responsible for the direction of staff members assigned to them. The RN is responsible and accountable for the delivery of individualized nursing care to the Obstetrical/Gynecological (OB/GYN) and Medical/Surgical (Med/Surg) populations. The RN has an advanced understanding of the Nursing Practice Process including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the OB/GYN, medical, and surgical patients. They use this understanding while providing direct care including physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and educational needs of the patient and family.

  • Modifies the care plan based on the needs of the patient, consults with the medical staff about changes in the patient’s condition.
  • Acts as a resource to other team members including students.
  • Keeps updated on current nursing practice, medications and legal issues related to patient-based services.
  • Follows the recommended infection control policies when caring for patients. Is constantly vigilant to the safety needs of patients, taking necessary precautions as warranted.
  • Conforms to the Nurse Practice Act. Conducts Medical Screening Exams under the direction of the OB provider.
  • Collects, interprets, and documents in the EMR and communicates appropriately pertinent data that is relevant to the patient’s care with other members of the health care team. Reports malfunctioning equipment promptly and removes this from the patient care area to maintain a safe environment.
  • Participates in and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Required to float to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as necessary, based on department needs.
  • Answers patient call lights and addresses patient needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience:

Required:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • RN License in Minnesota
  • BLS Certification
  • ACLS Certification within six months to one year
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Certification within one year
  • STABLE Certification within one year
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training will be provided with recertification required every two years
  • Trauma Training is completed in house and needs to be completed by end of orientation
  • Verbalizes role in public address codes
  • Basic computer skills: Microsoft Word and Outlook. Patient Information Database (Cerner)
Preferred:
  • Previous maternity or ICU nursing experience is preferred but not required
