Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current and active Registered Nurse license in the applicable state/jurisdiction.
  • BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to obstetric patients during labor, delivery, recovery, and the immediate postpartum period.
  • Assess maternal and fetal status through ongoing monitoring, including vital signs, contractions, fetal heart tones, and labor progression.
  • Administer medications, IV therapy, and treatments as ordered, including induction agents, pain management, and emergency interventions.
  • Assist physicians, midwives, and anesthesia providers during vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, and obstetric procedures.
  • Educate patients and families on labor expectations, pain management options, breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including OB providers, NICU staff, surgical teams, and lactation consultants.

Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health is the first new full-service hospital in Washington, DC in more than 20 years, integrating clinical care with existing community providers, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC’s), The George Washington University Hospital, and our Urgent Care Center in Ward 8. This integrated delivery system is a robust network of care for all District residents, but more importantly, it ensures that residents of Wards 7 and 8 have access to high quality care in their community.

This full-service hospital includes 136 beds (with the ability to expand to 184 beds), a verified trauma center, adult and pediatric emergency departments, maternal health and newborn delivery, an ambulatory pavilion for clinic visits and other outpatient services, a 500-car garage, and a helipad for emergency transport.

We are seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (PRN-Nights)

Our ideal candidate will provide a safe, competent nursing care for patients in accordance with facility policies, standards, and philosophy. Provides professional leadership and support to the healthcare team. They work alongside other medical staff to ensure a safe and smooth delivery process, monitoring vital signs, administering medications, assisting with epidurals, and providing support during childbirth. In addition to their clinical responsibilities, labor and delivery nurses also have the role of educating and supporting parents about newborn care, breastfeeding, and recovery after childbirth. They are an essential source of emotional support, comforting and guiding patients through what can be both a joyful and stressful experience. They answer questions, address fears, and empathize with the expectant mother throughout the journey.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Recognize and respond quickly to maternal or fetal emergencies, initiating appropriate interventions and escalation of care.
  • Educate patients and families on labor expectations, pain management options, breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery.
  • Support patients emotionally and advocate for individualized birth plans while ensuring safe clinical outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, fetal monitoring strips, and patient responses.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including OB providers, NICU staff, surgical teams, and lactation consultants.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, patient safety standards, infection prevention practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives, drills, and continuing education related to obstetric care.

Qualifications
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current and active Registered Nurse license in the applicable state/jurisdiction.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience preferred.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required or obtained within designated timeframe.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required or obtained within designated timeframe.
  • Fetal monitoring certification or demonstrated competency preferred.
