Job summary

Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center in Washington, DC, is seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse for a part-time night shift. The role provides safe, competent nursing care for obstetric patients, with leadership and collaboration across the healthcare team during labor, delivery, and postpartum care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current RN license in the applicable state/jurisdiction.
• BSN preferred.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience preferred.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required or obtained within designated timeframe.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required or obtained within designated timeframe.
• Fetal monitoring certification or demonstrated competency preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to obstetric patients during labor, delivery, recovery, and the immediate postpartum period.
• Assess maternal and fetal status through ongoing monitoring, including vital signs, contractions, fetal heart tones, and labor progression.
• Administer medications, IV therapy, and treatments as ordered, including induction agents, pain management, and emergency interventions.
• Assist physicians, midwives, and anesthesia providers during vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, and obstetric procedures.
• Recognize and respond quickly to maternal or fetal emergencies, initiating appropriate interventions and escalation of care.
• Educate patients and families on labor expectations, pain management options, breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum recovery.
• Support patients emotionally and advocate for individualized birth plans while ensuring safe clinical outcomes.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, fetal monitoring strips, and patient responses.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including OB providers, NICU staff, surgical teams, and lactation consultants.
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, patient safety standards, infection prevention practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement initiatives, drills, and continuing education related to obstetric care.
